महाभारत के भीषण युद्ध के बाद, पांडव अपने सगे-संबंधियों की हत्या के पाप (गोत्र हत्या) से दुखी थे। इस पाप से मुक्ति पाने के लिए वे भगवान कृष्ण की शरण में गए।
काली ध्वजा का रहस्य: श्री कृष्ण ने उन्हें एक काली ध्वजा और काली गाय दी और कहा कि जिस स्थान पर ये दोनों सफेद हो जाएं, समझ लेना वहीं महादेव की कृपा से तुम्हारे पाप धुल गए।

The Legend of the Pandavas and Nishkalank Mahadev
After the epic war of the Mahabharata, the Pandavas were grief-stricken by the sin of killing their own kin (Gotra Hatya). To seek atonement for this sin, they sought the guidance of Lord Krishna.
The Secret of the Black Flag: Lord Krishna gave them a black flag and a black cow. He told them that at the place where both the cow and the flag turned white, they should understand that their sins had been washed away by the grace of Mahadev.
